ProxWedge: Secure Access & Authentication
Integrated security with a bar code and badge reader
Epic Data International approached MTSI to help design a workstation solution that delivers advanced user identity authentication, and automated time and materials tracking for knowledge and manufacturing workers.
Preventing unauthorized access to critical systems was essential to the end user, Lockheed Martin’s material requirements planning (MRP) systems at three plants in California, the F-35 Joint Striker Fighter production facility in Fort Worth, Texas; and in Huntsville, Alabama. The system was also embedded in a new Linux-based terminal for Lockheed.
In this highly secure environment, a low-cost, simple way to integrate sophisticated automation identification, project tracking and secure-access capabilities just makes sense.
Enterprise-wide data capture
Solution
The system, ProxWedge, integrated RFID proximity card-reading and barcode scanning into a single device that connects to the workstation and enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.
Moreover, the PC client provided workstations with direct access to manufacturing information systems, and created a network of automated identification and data-capture points throughout the enterprise, utilizing existing desktop workstations.
Epic Data was later acquired by Sylogist.
Impact
Epic Data was a very well-recognized software development, hardware design and support organization. Epic Data established an enviable customer base with expertise in the enterprise application software field, in particular with its manufacturing execution systems, data collection platform software and warehouse management application software.
